I’m a mixed race on-the-fence Feminist in a hijab based in Wales where I live with my amazing husband and son.
I started writing at the age of 6/7 but mostly wrote poetry about dragons.
I graduated from university with a BA (Hon) in English Literature and have worked in several different third sector (charity) organisations relating to people who are deaf or hard of hearing, domestic violence, and people from ethnic minorities struggling with mental health.
My work has been featured in numerous publications including MuslimGirl.com, Huffington Post UK, God is in the TV, Hedgehog Press, Banat Collective, SISTER’s magazine and Muslimtravelgirl.com.
I’ve performed spoken word across the UK and have been featured on BBC Radio Wales, ITV Wales, Islam Channel, and BMTV.
My writing covers a broad range of ideas and topics but my main interest is exploring the Muslim woman’s experience.
Muslim women are very often spoken for or talked about as a monolith but rarely are we invited to join these discussions or do anything that expresses our individuality away from perceived binaries.
When not writing I love to travel, draw, eat good food, and try new things.
